CARP Workshop in Tanzania - Enhance Capacity of Communities to Adapt to Climate Change

Ardhi University (ARU) in Dar es Salaam hosted the first Climate Adaptation Research Program (CARP) workshop, which was attended by 70 participants from various countries, including Algeria, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and the United States. The aim of the workshop was to enhance disaster preparedness and planning in Africa by providing applied research funds and networking and training opportunities to young and early-career scholars at higher education institutions in the Global South. The workshop also focused on creating a community of engaged academic scholars who work closely with government leaders, practitioners, and local communities to address climate adaptation challenges. CARP, an initiative of the University of Arizona, United States, in partnership with Stellenbosch University, South Africa, is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and focuses on promoting applied climate adaptation research in Africa. The program aims to study the impacts and implications of disaster risk reduction (DRR) policies and strategies, thus promoting a new generation of climate adaptation research in the continent.
