Alberto is a South African researcher turned program manager working in the field of Disaster Risk Science and Development Studies. He is based at Stellenbosch University, where he works for the secretariat of PERIPERI U, a consortium of 12 African universities focused on enhancing disaster risk research and capacity development across the continent. His scope of work includes activities related to supporting the management of the PERIPERI U initiative as well as specific secretariat projects and activities. It also includes organizing and/or participating in strategic engagements to advocate for higher education involvement in disaster risk. He is also involved in providing logistical and operational support to PERIPERI U’s training and capacity development-related activities, such as the online short courses and workshops. Alberto is currently helping to manage the Climate Adaptation Research Program (CARP), which is supporting research and capacity development among early career professionals in Africa in coordination with the University of Arizona.
